إن هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا، هو كتاب نافع سار فيه مؤلفه على نهج الإمام محي الدين النووي في كتابه القيم "رياض الصالحين" الذي تلقته الأمة بالقبول. والشيخ بدران في اتباعه وتقليده لم يبعد كثيراً عن الرياض، وقام بعمله مترسماً عمل الإمام النووي. عارضاً لجميع أبواب كتابه، في نقل أكثر أحاديثه مع الإضافة عليها، شارحاً لفوائدها بأسلوب مغاير لما فعله النووي. زائداً عليه في شروح له، مضيفاً إليها من علمه-أو مما نقله من العلماء الذين جاؤوا بعده، مع الإبقاء على حجم كتابه أصغر من الرياض.
ولأهمية الكتاب وللمكانة التي احتلها مؤلفه بين علماء القرن الثالث عشر في بيروت عني "زهير الشاويش" بتذييل الكتاب بتحقيق لطيف هدفه توضيح ما أبهم فيه وما أشكل ليكون بمثابة زاد يساعد المطلعين على قراءة آيات القرآن، والأحاديث النبوية، وآثار السلف المروية.
