إنها رواية الألم العراقي، والمعاناة والتشظي حيث أصبح الحلم محفوفاً بالخوف وتضحي العاطفة نهباً للوساوس والقلق. والملفت في الأمر هي تلك العبارة التي قدم بها الكاتب للفصل الأول: (الأمهات ضرائبنا المستمرة التي لا نستطيع سدادها أبداً، أما الآباء فهم السبب) وهي عبارة تشي بأسرار كثيرة منذ الوهلة الأولى.
