المؤلف الاستاذ الدكتور فاروق عمر فوزي عربي عراقي موصلّي . حصل على البكالوريس من جامعة بغداد والدكتوراه من جامعة لندن . قام بالتدريس في عدة جامعات عربية واجنبية ، وشارك في كتابة بحوث في موسوعات عالمية عديدة . وألف عدداً من الكتب في التاريح والحضارة الاسلامية وخاصة في التاريخ العباسي وتاريخ عمان . وله كتب مترجمة من اللغة الانجليزية الى اللغة العربية . أما الكتاب فيتناول علاقة الجغرافية بالتاريخ واثرها على الاحداث التاريخية في اقليم ما .فإذا كان التاريخ يدرس نشاط الانسان في الزمان والمكان وتطور هذا النشاط في الماضي البعيد والقريب، فإن الجغرافية تنظر نظرة شموليه تجمع بين الانسان والمكان والزمان، ومدئ التفاعل المتبادل بين المظاهر الجغرافية المتنوعة من طبيعة ومناخ وموقع وغيرها وبين نشاط الانسان وانجازاته .ومعنى ذلك فإن الجغرافية تتطلع الى توضيح التاريخ ،ومن هنا كان التداخل بينهما أمراً طبيعياً حتى قيل أنهما وجهان لعملة واحدة. وهذا ما قصده فكتور كوزان بقوله ((أعطني خارطة قطر،واذكر لي جغرافيته الطبيعية ، ساخبرك بمستقبل الانسان في هذا القطر )). وبقدر علاقة الامر بموضوع الكتاب فإن المعلومات والاشارات التاريخية في مصادر الجغرافية عند المسلمين تعد عاملاً اضافياً مساعداً في توضيح وفهم تاريخ العالم الاسلامي في الماضي والحاضر. ومدى اثر الجغرافيه على تاريخه.
