لا شك بأن بوريس باسترناك أشهر من أن يعرف إلا أن روايته دكتور جيفاكو ببساطتها وسلاسة أسلوبها وتشابك أحداثها ووقائعها جعلته في مصاف الروائيين العالمية الأول فقد جمع في روايته "دكتور جيفاكو" أدب اللغة وفن القصة وقيادة الأحدث. التي انطوت تحت لواء مثله العليا ومبادئه السامية.
وأكبر دليل على عظمة الرواية وأهميتها أنها صورت في فيلم سينمائي ضرب الرقم القياسي في المداخيل، ونال عدة جوائز عالمية. وقام بدور البطولة فيه عمر الشريف، جولي كريستي وجير الدين شابلن.
وأقل ما يقال فيها أنها "جديرة بالقراءة" مرات ومرات لنعيش الأيام الأولى من الثورة الروسية الشهيرة. وقد يصح أن نعتبر هذه الرواية تأريخاً لتلك الثورة وما مهد لها وتبعها من أحداث، قد يكون التاريخ المعاصر قد أهملها.
