كان الإمام "المنذري" عديم النظير في علم الحديث على اختلاف فنونه، عالماً بصحيحة وسقيمه ومعلوله وطرقه متبحراً في معرفة أحكامه ومعانيه ومشكله، قيّماً بمعرفة غريبة وإعرابه، مثبتاً فيما يرويه، وكانت له مؤلفات كثيرة في الحديث ومن أهمها كتاب "أربعون حديثاً في اصطناع المعروف" الذي عنى صدر الدين المناوي بتخريج أحاديثه في هذا الكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته، من غير أن يتعرض إلى تضعيف حديث ولا تصحيحه، ولا تقوية سنده ولا ترجيحه، ولكن مضيفاً في بعض الأخبار إلى الحديث ما يناسبه، جامعاً معه ما يشاكله. هذا وقد جاء الكتاب محققاً بقلم "سمير طه المجذوب" وتجلى عمل المحقق بضبط النص وتخريج أحاديثه وتبيين الصحيح منها والضعيف مع ذكر لبعض التعليقات حول سند الحديث ورجاله.
