ما بين دفتي الكتاب شرح للمحاضرة الموسوعية التي ألقاها الدكتور حسين علي محفوظ في المنتدى الثقافي لـ (جريدة كربلاء الأسبوعية) في مدينة كربلاء المقدسة سنة 2002 م. قام بهذا الجهد "عبد الأمير عوج" وفاءاً لهذا العالم العراقي الفذَ، فشرح بعض ما التبس من جوانبها وحيثياتها ومهدَ لها بصفعات وثقَ فيها جوانب من الواقع الثقافي والأدبي لمدينة كربلاء المقدسة في تلك الحقبة التي كان المثقفون فيها يعانون الأمرين وهم يسعوم لخدمة الثقافة والعلم. آملاً في إلغاء الضوء على (الصورة المنسية للإمام الحسين رضي الله عنه ولمكتشفها الراحل العلامة المحقق د. محفوظ...)
وفي هذا السياق يورد "عبد الأمير عوج" نبذة عن سيرة حياة العلامة محفوظ، وعن مجمل أعماله ومساهماته في تاريخ العراق الحديث يرافق ذلك مصادر مهمة عم مدينة كربلاء؛ تتضمن ما جاءت به أحاديث آل بيت النبوة عن كربلاء، وأخيراً "قراءة لمحفوظ بأقلام أربعة من أبنائه ومحبيه من أدباء كربلاء" بقلم الدكتور محمد الخطيب وآخرون.
