المخدرات تلك الآفة التي تفتك بالمجتمعات، وتأتي على كل ما هو خير فيها، إذ تستبيح عقول الشباب الذين يتأمل المجتمع فيهم خيراً، والمخدرات قديمة قدم التاريخ الإنساني، إذ تشير المصادر التاريخية إلى أن الإنسان عرف أنواعاً عديدة منها. وفي هذه الدراسة يتصدى المؤلف إلى رصد تنامي هذه الظاهرة في المجتمع اللبناني بشكل خاص وقد وضع هذه الدراسة على شكل دراسة إحصائية تحليلية ترتكز على منهجية علمية واضحة مستمدة من الخبرة العملية. وهي إلى ذلك دراسة تطبيقية وانتقائية، بهدف إرساء نظام مقاومة فعال بوجه ظاهرة الإجرام في المجتمع اللبناني.
والمؤلف يبسط بأسلوب علمي مشوق مخاطر المخدرات وأنواعها فضلاً عن تاريخ دخول المخدرات إلى لبنان، إذ أرجع ذلك إلى أيام العثمانيين. واستفحل داؤها في المجتمع مع تغاضي الفرنسيين عن زراعتها. كما يفصل القول في أنواع المخدرات إذ يقسمها إلى مواد مسكنة وتشمل الأفيون والمورفين والهيرويين. ومواد مخدرة منشطة أو تضم الكوكايين والامفتيامينات والقات النيكوتين إضافة إلى المواد المهلوسة كالحشيشة والمسكالين والبسيلوسيبين، ومواد الهلوسة المصنعة، والمواد المنومة بأنواعها.
ويدعو المؤلف في ثنايا الكتاب إلى وضع برنامج لمكافحة المخدرات عن طريق إصدار وتطبيق القوانين الزاجرة والرادعة، وتنظيم عمليات المكافحة، وإعداد البرامج العملية القابلة للتنفيذ. ويضم الكتاب ملاحق مفصلة هامة باللغتين العربية والغربية إضافة إلى الرسوم التي تبين أنواع المخدرات وطرق تناول كل واحدة منها.
