انطلاقاً من مبدأ "التجارب أساس النجاح" رغب طارق عبد الله، من موقعه العسكري في الجيش اللبناني أولاً، ثم باعتباره أحد البارزين في جيش لبنان العربي منذ نشأته، وحتى نهاية الدور الذي قام به خلال الأحداث الأليمة التي عصفت بلبنان في العقدين السابع والثامن من هذا القرن (العشرين) رغب في تدوين مذكراته هدفه من وراء ذلك وضع تجاربه في خدمة المجتمع والوطن والجيش لعله بذلك يسلط أضواء على أمور اعتبرها من الأسباب التي هدمت صرح المؤسسة العسكرية إبان الحرب اللبنانية، والتي أسهمت أيضاً في تدمير الوطن والمواطن. وقد دوّن الوقائع بكل صدق حيث اعتمد في بعضها على مراجع وأبحاث وثائقية من بعض المصادر، إلى جانب اعتماده على أرشيف وثائقي احتفظ به لنفسه عن سنوات الحرب اللبنانية.
