تعتبر المعرفة هي القوة، وهي أثمن موارد المنظمة إذا استُخدمت بالطريقة الصحيحة، حيث أشار (Peter Druker, 1993) أن المعرفة أصبحت تعتبر المورد الأساسي بدل من كونها أحد موارد المنظمة (Crandford, 2005)، لذلك على المنظمات أن تهتم بها وتحاول ضمان وجود المعرفة المناسبة في الوقت الذي تحتاجه.
وعليه فإن التشارك في هذه المعرفة بين الموظفين فيما بينهم، أو بين الموظفين والزبائن، هو الوسيلة لتحقيق النجاح للمنظمة، فمستقبل المنظمة يعتمد على معارف أفضل موظفيها، كما أن الإنتقال إلى الوضع الأفضل يُحتِّم على المنظمة التأكد من أن لديها المعرفة الصحيحة والملائمة للتطبيق.
ومع أن موضوع القيادة الإستراتيجية حديث الإهتمام من قبل الباحثين، إلا أن موضوع القيادة عموماً من المواضيع التي لقيت إهتماماً علمياً وعاماً، مُذْ تطرق إليها أفلاطون في سلسلته الفلسفية حول الملوك (Crad, 1997).
ومع إستمرارية التغيرات في محيط أعمال المنظمات، تستمر أهمية البحث في موضوع القيادة، وأصبح التوجه الجديد لأغلب الباحثين هو إما دراسة النظريات الجديدة للقيادة، وإما دراسة القيادة الإستراتجيية في ظل ديناميكية محيط الأعمال، كما أن الإهتمام بالقيادة الإستراتيجية يرجع إلى تأثيرها على أداء المنظمة وإستراتيجيتها (Sosik et al, 2005).
إن أهمية النظر للتشارك في المعرفة من جانب إستراتيجي وضرورة فهم العلاقة بين وجود قيادة إستراتيجية فعالة وثقافة تعلم قوية بالتشارك في المعرفة هو ما دفع لإعداد هذا الكتاب الذي يركز أكثر على شرح العلاقة بين المفاهيم أكثر من وصفها بشكل منفصل.
