قد تبدو المقارنة بين الإسلام والحداثة مفهوماً غير ذي بالٍ، ولكن لا يخفى على المثقّف الخبير أنّ الحداثة ليست مرحلةً زمنيّة وإلاّ فإنّ الزمن الذي يمرّ على كلّ شيء ويصيبه بالقِدم لا يمرّ على نفسه، ولذلك يبقى حديثاً ما دام هناك شيء اسمه الزمن.
ومن هنا، كان البحث في الحداثة ومقارنتها بالإسلام عملاً عمليّاً يستحقّ صرف الوقت وبذل الجهد، على الرغم من دخولنا في مرحلة ما بعد الحداثة، وذلك أنّ الحداثة مرحلة زمنيّة راجت فيها مجموعة من الأفكار والرؤى والمناهج، ما سمح بتحويل هذا المفهوم الزمنيّ إلى مدرسة، أو مجموعة مدارس تشترك في أصول مشتركة، وتحاول صبغ كلّ شيء بصبغتها.
والإسلام ليس فقط دين عبادة أو مجموعة من الطقوس، بل هو، إلى جانب البعد العبادي والعملاني فيه، مجموعة من المعايير القِيَميّة الأخلاقيّة، ومجموعة من النظرات والرؤى إلى الإنسان والحياة، بل الوجود كلّه بُبعدَيه الماديّ وما وراء المادة.
وإذا كان الأمر كذلك، فمن الطبيعيّ أن تلتقي بعض النظرات الحداثويّة مع النظرات الإسلاميّة أو تختلف، وعليه كان من الطبيعي أن يُثار غبار الجدل والنقاش في كثير من المفردات الدينيّة التي لا تلتقي مع المناهج الحداثويّة او العكس؛ وهذه المحاولة العمليّة التي قدّمها السيّد "صدر الدين القبّانجي"، هي مجموعة مراودات في الأسس الفلسفيّة للحداثة ألقاها على طلابه في النجف الأشرف، وحوّلها أحد هؤلاء الطلاب إلى هذا الكتاب بعد تحريرها بالطريقة التي تتناسب مع البيئة الكتابيّة، وبعيداً عن الثناء على المحاولة أو نقدها، فإنّها محاولة فيها الكثير من الجهد، وربّما تكون مسبوقةً، ولكن مع ذلك تبقى لكلّ محاولة علميّة فرادتها التي تستمدّها من صاحبها.
