إن الطروحات الفلسفية التي اشتمل عليها كتاب "نهج البلاغة" للإمام علي رضي الله عنه إنما تمثل نمطاً من التفكير يغلب عليه طابع الاعتزال. ورغم أن ما جاء فيه قد خالف النهج الفلسفي المتعارف عليه، فإن روعة العبارة، وعمق المعنى، وجذالة اللفظ، وغزارة المادة، ونوع المواضيع التي تحدث عنها، وهي نفسها التي ترتد إليها محاولات الفلاسفة، قديمهم وحديثهم على السواء، ألا وهي: الله والكون والإنسان، هذه الأمور جميعها، تثبت بما لا يدع مجالاً للشك، بأن "نهج البلاغة" هو في صميم الفلسفة، ومن المراجع الهامة التي يمكن أن يعتمد عليها في البحث عن مبادئ الاعتزال، وأن كاتب هذا الكلام، وباعث هذا الفكر، إنما هو فيلسوف بمادته وإن لم يتعمد الفلسفة، وأن ما صدر عنه من أقوال وخطب، تعبر عن تواصل حقيقي بين إنسان وإنسان، أي أنه مقول في إطار اجتماعي عند المفكرين الصادقين في عاطفتهم، والذي يأتي تفكيرهم تعبيراً عن حالاتهم النفسية المختلفة، وهم يرسلون كلامهم على سجيتهم، دونما التفات إلى ما يَعْتِوره من عدم ترابط في أجزائه بشكل تسلسلي واحد.
ولقد تناول هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا، بالبحث والتحليل تلك المواضيع الثلاثة، مُظهراً ما في كتاب "النهج" من أفكار فلسفية بالمقارنة مع ما صدر من أهل الاعتزال في هذا المجال، كاشفاً الحجاب عن جانب هام من جوانب تراثنا الإسلامي الغني المعطاء، بأسلوب يوازن بين العمق والوضوح، وانسياب العبارة وتسلسلها المنطقي.
