وعلى وجه العموم يمكن تعريف علم الإقتصاد "بأنه ذلك العلم الذي يدرس سلوك الإنسان من أجل إشباع حاجاته المتعددة عن طريق تنظيم عملية الإنتاج الإجتماعي للموارد المحدودة ذات الإستعمالات المختلفة.
يعرّف هذا الكتاب بمبادئ الإقتصاد الجزئي والكلي وذلك في جزئين ضم الجزء الأول "مبادئ الإقتصاد الجزئي"، تسعة وحدات حملت العناوين: الوحدة الأولى: "مفاهيم إقتصادية عامة"، الوحدة الثانية: "الطلب على السلع والخدمات"، الوحدة الثالثة: "العرض من السلع والخدمات"، الوحدة الرابعة: "تفاعل قوى العرض والطلب في السوق"، الوحدة الخامسة: "المرونات"، الوحدة السادسة: "سلوك المستهلك"، الوحدة السابعة: "الإنتاج والتكاليف"، الوحدة الثامنة: "سلوك المؤسسات الإقتصادية"، الوحدة التاسعة: "سوق عناصر الإنتاج".
أما الجزء الثاني "مبادئ الإقتصادي الكلي" فاحتوى ثمانية وحدات تناول فيها المؤلف المواضيع التالية، يتضمن الوحدة الأولى: "الناتج المحلي الإجمالي والدخل القومي"، الوحدة الثانية: "مكونات الناتج القومي"، الوحدة الثالثة: "محددات الناتج القومي"، الوحدة الرابعة: "الدخل التوازني"، الوحدة الخامسة: "المضاعف"، الوحدة السادسة: "المشكلات الإقتصادية الكلية"، الوحدة السابعة: "النقود والبنوك"، الوحدة الثامنة: "السياسات الإقتصادية".
