سكتت مرة أخرى وبان عليها الشرود، وكأنها غاصت في لجج ذاتها العميقة. فذكرها حمزة بأنه ينتظر جوابها، فقالت بعد تفكير: أنت شاب لامع تتمناه أية فتاة عاقلة، وطلبك مدعاة فرح لي، ولكن هل أنت قادر على دفع مهري؟ وما هو مهرك يا سكينة؟ مهري؟ قولي أرجوك، فسوف أدفعه، مهما كان غالياً..! مهري هو الثأر، نعم الثأر يا حمزة ممن قتل أمي، وشقيقتي، وطفليها بغير حق..! 73871 احتار بماذا يجيبها، فهو يعرف حق المعرفة، أنها تحبه، ولن تشترط عليه ما لا يقدر على تنفيذه في الوقت الحاضر، فالوقت يغدره، وعليه أني قرر ماذا يفعل بالنسبة لمستقبله، هل يغادر إلى فرنسا قبل نهاية الشهر، ليلتحق بجامعته؟ أم يلتحق بها "هي" وينفذ ما تطلبه منه؟ ولكنه وجد لها عذراً: "لا شك أنها لا تزال واقعة تحت تأثير الصدمة..!" بعد تفكير قال: وهل تحبين الموت إلى هذه الدرجة يا سكينة؟ لا بل أحب الحياة! أريد أن أحيا، ولكن أخشى أن لا أستطيع بغير الانتقام؟ سكتت قليلاً، ثم أردفت قائلة: لا أدري، ربما أكبر دليل على حبنا للحياة، هو شعار: "أريد أن أنتقم للذين أحبهم"، ما رأيك أنت؟ طبعاً، طبعاً، فهمت ما تقصدين يا حبيبتي، فالموت هنا ليس سوى في خدمة الحيا’، الحياة الحرة الكريمة..! ولكن من منا لا يريد الانتقام من هذا العدو الغادر؟
