إن المحدثين من سلفنا الصالح أرسوا قواعد علوم الحديث بعد دراسة أسانيد السنة ومتونها دراسة منهجية موضوعية، ولكثرتها نظموها في أنواع منضبطة ليسهل فهمها ودراستها، وصنفوها في كتب عرفت بكتب علوم الحديث، ومصطلح الحديث، وغير ذلك، وفندوا احوال رجال الأسانيد في كتب تراجمهم التي عرفت بكتب تاريخ الرجال، وكتب الجرح والتعديل، وغير ذلك مع كثرتها وإختلافها في أسلوب التصنيف، ولما كانت أحوال الرجال من حيث القبول والرد كثيرة جداً ذكرت كتب علوم الحديث المشهور منها الذي يتضمن أحوالاً فرعيةً متعددة مع الحكم عليها مجملاً تحت نوع (من تقبل روايته ومن ترد) مما لم يذكر في الأنواع الأخرى، دون تفصيل معرِّف بها وبضوابطها لشهرة ذلك لديهم وطلاب الحديث في زمانهم، فكانت لا تحتاج عندهم إلا إلى ذكر حكم المحدثين عليها إجمالاً، غير أن كتب تاريخ الرجال ذكرتها لكن حسب مقتضى حال المترجّم وضمن ساق قصة أو منعى معين دون تعريف شافٍ، أو ضوابط بصورة كافية.
لذا، فالحصول على تعريف لها جامع مانع، وأقسام، وأنواع، وأسباب بشكل مستقل يخدم المتخصصين في هذا العصر غير ممكن إلا بتتبع كتب علوم الحديث وتاريخ الرجال ليُستخرج ذلك من ثنايا كلام الحدثين بسياقاته ودلالاته المختلفة، ثم تأليف تلك الدلالات وتصنيفها حتى يتسنى بعد ذلك صياغة تعريفها، وأقسامها، وأنواعها، وما أشبه ذلك.
وقبول التلقين أحد تلك الأحوال المنتشرة في كتب تاريخ الرجال بالأسلوب السالف الذكر والمذكور في كتب علوم الحديث مجملاً مع حكمه الإجمالي بما لا يتجاوز الآتي وهو: رد رواية من عرف بقبول التلقين، مع تعريف جزئي للتلقين؛ وهذا الواقع بالنظر إلى حاجة المتخصص المعاصر يقتضي تعريف التلقين تعريفاً جامعاً، وأنواعه، وأسباب قبوله، ثم حكم قبوله، وما يتعلق بذلك.
ولما كان الأمر كذلك أقدم المؤلف هذه الدراسة لتحقيق المقتضى المذكور في هذا الكتاب ليسهل تناوله لدى الباحث المتخصص المعاصر.
