في كتاب "الشغف العربي"، يطوف بنا جيل كيبل أستاذ ورئيس برنامج الدراسات الشرق أوسطية في المعهد السياسي في باريس، في الدول العربية التي شهدت أحداثاً واندلعت فيها "ثورات" في عام 2011، بدءاً من تونس وإنتهاءاً بسوريا، وقد جال كيبل في كل من هذه الدول مسجلاً وراوياً ليومياته وإنطباعاته وما دار مع الأشخاص الذين قابلهم خلال الفترة 2011- 2013.
تبدأ رحلة المؤلف من سيدي بو زيد، وهي بلدة تقع وسط تونس، عندما أشعل بائع متجول النار في نفسه يوم 17 ديسمبر 2011، واشتعلت معه المظاهرات مطالبة بالعدل والحرية والديمقراطية.
وانتقلت هذه ا لحركات إلى أكثر من بلد، وسقطت أنظمة الحكم في تونس ومصر واليمن وليبيا، فيما تحول الحراك الشعبي في كل من سرويا واليمن وليبيا إلى منعطف آخر، لتغرق في حروب ومعاناة أدت إلى عدد كبير جداً من الضحايا، والدمار عمّ أرجاء هذه الدول، كما تناول ظهارة صعود "الأحزاب الإسلامية" فيما عدا البحرين التي كان لمجريات الأحداث فيها منحى آخر.
