هل صحيح أن نيرون وشمشون ومن لف لفهما، على حق أو معهم حق؟ سؤال لا بد من طرحه عقب الانتهاء من مطالعة هذه القصص العابقة برائحة التراب والأرض ونكهة الحياة الريقية البريئة، وسط متاهات المدينة. تستقي نهى مسلم مادة قصصها الطريفة بحوادثها وأبطالها من صميم الحياة في الجبل والمدينة والأرض السلبية، وتغرف من مسلسل الحرب الأهلية في لبنان، فتعود بها الذاكرة إلى الطرد والتهجير والتفجير والقتل على الهوية، والفرز السكاني البشعن فضلاً عن التدمير والتقتيل ومعاناة الإنسان العادي في سراديب المدينة. وتستعيد أيام بيروت الحلوة ودنياها البراقة.
هذه القصص -الباكورة- لها طعم خاص ونكهة خاصة ومألوفة، تحاكي مذاق الثمار الأولى في موسم النضج. أسلوبها طبعي، يتوسل البساطة ولغة الحياة اليومية والظرف دون التخلي عن العفوية والبراءة، والشفافية، وحتى (هذيان العاشقة) لا يخلو من التجذر في الواقع المؤلم والحاضر المضطرب في الزمن الردئ.
ففي قصة "العائدة" تطالعنا عناصر المأساة كاملة: "بأن ما يحصل لها الآن من موت مأسوي على عتبة بيتها في فلسطين، على يد العدو الإسرائيلي، سيحصل بعد سنوات قليلة، لكثير من اللبنانيين، وبين بعضهم البعض، وفي قلب وطنهم الرائه ووطنها الحبيب...".
وفي "حروب جانبية" يعود "نيرون" إلى الظهور من جديد في زي التساؤل المشبع بالهواجس والرؤيا: "أليست الحياة كلها حروباً متتالية، حروباً هامشية ربما، حروباً جانبية ربما، حروباً إضافية داخلية وخارجية... صراعات متواصلة بين الجسد الواحد، وبين الأهل والشعوب، حروباً مختلفة في النوع والشدة ربما، ولكنها حروب؟".
