بلغة شعرية متأنقة، تجمع بين السرد والنثر، يصوغ "نغم عرنوق" حكاياته هي حديث الذاكرة. يقوّم بها المؤلف انحراف الواقع القاسي، لتبدأ المخيّلة بفتح كوة في جدار هذا الواقع، علّ الحياة تستعيد توازنها وتستمر.
وفي (المبتسم) مشاهد إجتماعية، يلتقطها المؤلف، تحاول التعبير عن نمط حياة معين، بعض مفرداته الملل والنجوى والأصوات والضحك والسخرية والصخب، هي حالات أو مظاهر أصبحت أكثر بروزاً في المجتمع، يفشل أصحابها في الوصول إلى ذلك السلام الداخلي، أو رضى ما، ما يؤدي إلى مزيد من الألم.
في هذه الأجواء، تدور رحى النصوص، أظهر المؤلف براعة في نسجها من حيث التقنيات واللغة التعبيرية نقرأ له نصاً بعنوان [إحتمال]:
"لم أعد أقوى على الإحتمال .. ماذا لو أزيح يكفي كل ما تراكم على سطح جمجمتي .. وأعيد ترتيب الأولويات.
أولاً عليّ أن أنفض النعاس من رأسي / ثانياً يجب أن أقرأ تفاصيلي، أن أريح سحب الدخان وألجُ إلى ذاكرتي، أقلب الصناديق، أفتح الأدراج، أكسر الخزائن، أنبش الفراش .. لا .. ليس هكذا ... (...) لم أعد أقوى على الإحتمال".
