من عالم الشهادة الأخيرة، على باب الموت الموصد، يدخلنا غونار ايكيلوف (1907-1968) إلى عوالمه السفلية، في الجزء الثالث والأخير من ثلاثية الختامية التي أعطاها عنواناً عربياً شرقياً صميما (ديوان). هذا الجزء الختامي هو "دليل العالم السفلي". استوحى الشاعر كلمة "دليل" من الرحالة الجغرافي الإغريقي بوسانياس "134-176م"، في كتابه الإرشاد القديم، والكلمة المستوحاة هي periegetes أي المرشد، لكنه لاحظ أن دانتي سمح لغير جيل أن يقود كدليل في الجحيم، معبراً عن أفكاره وحواراته وسرده ورؤاه الشعرية. ويعقب ايكيلوف قائلاً: إن الرؤى والأحلام تستحق أن ينظر إليها بعين الديل".
أما مصطلح "العالم السفلي" فمن الواضح أن الشاعر كان قد أخذه عن ملحمة جلجامش، لكنه عنى به أكثر تميزاً وخصوصية من المصطلح الكلاسيكي القديم في الملحمة. فهو يشير إلى الصراع مع الطبيعة والآلهة الشريرة المستبدة وحسب، بل يعني ويقصد تراجيديا الحضارة الأوروبية المعاصرة ومدنيتها وقوانيها وأنظمتها الاجتماعية والسياسية والاقتصادية حيث الثراء والقوة، دليل على البطش الوحشي، والطغيان والعبث بمصير الإنسانية، نتيجة للعقم الروحي والخواء والانحلال الأخلاقي، الذي أدى إلى الحروب الاستعمارية، مما جعل ايكيلوف رافضاً، بل كارها، لهذه الحضارة ممثلة في أولى حلقاتها الإغريقية-الهيلنية-البيزنطية.
إذ يعتقد أنها مازالت قائمة بروحها ونصها في الحضارة والمدينة الأوروبية حتى أيامنا هذه، ويشير الشاعر إلى اعتبار "دليل العالم السفلي" حلية هندسية أو واسطة عقد لـ: ديوان بأكمله ليصونه من الدمار والخراب الذي لحق به، محتسباً أن بناء هيكله الفني، يتحدد من نقطة عليه نازلة من أعلى إلى أسفل، مرفقاً رسماً بيانياً لمحتوياته، مع إشارة لبدايات القصائد وترقيمها.
