مصنف هذه المنظومة هو "أحمد بن رسلان" رأس الصوفية المتشرعة في وقته؛ ولد برحلة فلسطين سنة ثلاث وسبعين وسبعمائة ونشأ بها، ثم رحل لأخذ العلوم، فسمع الحديث، وأخذ النحو عن ابن الهائم والعمادي والمحب والفاسي، والفقه عن ابن الهائم وابن الغرابلي، وسلك طريق الصوفية القيم وجدّ واجتهد حتى صار مناراً يهتدى به السالكون، كان أعظم أهل عصره اتباعاً للسنة النبوية واقتفاء للآثار المصطفوية، فكان يراعي ذلك حسب الإمكان من دقيق الأمور وجليلها ويؤاخذ نفسه بفاضل الأقوال والأعمال دون مفضولها، أوقاته موزعة على أنواع العبادة بين قيام وصيام وتأليف وإفادة. ومن تآليفه هذه المنظومة التي بين أيدينا "متن الزبد" والتي يجمع فيها مسائل علم الفقه على مذهب الإمام الشافعي، وهدفه من نظمها هو تسهيل حفظها على الأطفال والمبتدئين من الرجال. ولأهمية الرسالة عني بتذييلها بشرح يبين مضمونها ويوضح ما في غمض من معانيها.
