كانا يتعانقان في التدريبات كبجعتين أو كحيّة وشجرة في أسطورة الخلق، يستقيم جسده أكثر كلما تسلّقت قامته الباسقة، لتبدو كشراع مفرود للريح ويصبح هو كصاري السفينة يدل عليها مهما جنّت الأمواج. نشأت بينهما لغة خاصة، وفي المرات القليلة التي تحادثا فيها خارج أوقات العمل استعانا بالحركة لإيصال المقصود من الكلام. كان بإمكانه أن يخفيها في حضنه تماماً، ويطيب له أن يلمهّا بين ذراعيه وساقيه حتى تختفي ككنغر صغير في جراب أمه. شيءٌ من سطوة المعلم وآخر من هيمنة الذكورة استشرى بينهما. تنصاع له دون نقاش بشيء من ولاء التلميذة وآخر من ضعف الأنوثة. تستطيب الانسحاص فتثير فيه غريزة التملّك. وفي مراحل متقدمة صارت قسوته ملح العلاقة. أشهر قليلة مضت ليعرفا أنهما قطعتان من طينة واحدة، إحداهما جفّت وقست والأخرى ما زالت في طور اللّين.. لم يعد للآخريم وجود.
