تجسد فكرة هذا الكتاب جوهر عملية الترجمة بشقيها اللغوي والثقافي، فالترجمة فعل لغويَ تماماً كما هو فعل ثقافي، إذ إن من غير الممكن فصل اللغة، وهي الأداة الرئيسة في التعبير عن الثقافة، وهي المجال الذي يحيط بتلك اللغة بما فيه من عادات وقيم ورؤى ومعتقدات. ويمكن للغة أن تحلَق لتعانق السماء في يد المترجم الكفء، ولكنها لا تستطيع بأي حال من الأحوال أن تنسلخ عن الثقافة التي احتضنتها منذ لحظة وجودها. ومن هنا، فأن الإبداع في اللغة وتجسيد الثقافة صنوان لا ينفصلان عن بعضها أبداً. يضم الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا (الترجمة بين تجليات اللغة وفاعلية الثقافة)خمسة عشر بحثاً علمياً في حقل الترجمة، كتبها باللغة العربية باحثون من مختلف الجامعات العربية، وقد جاءت فكرة تحرير كتاب علمي عن الترجمة باللغة العربية على مواكبة الكتابة الأكاديمية الرصينة محتوى ومصطلحاً، إذ أن جل الدراسات الحديثة في الترجمة منشورة باللغة الإنجليزية، سواء أكان مؤلفوها أجانب أم عرباً.
تعالج الفصول الخمسة عشرة في هذا المجلد موضوعات متنوعة تتضمن قضايا ترجمية عامة في البداية (الفصول الخمسة الأولى) قبل أن تنتقل إلى دراسة مواضيع وحالات خاصة في الترجمة (الفصول العشرة المتبقية). ونأمل أن يفيد من هذه الأبحاث دارس الترجمة وممارسها والباحث فيها على حد سواء. فبالإضافة إلى القضايا النظرية المتنوعة والهامة التي تطرحها فصول هذا الكتاب، ثمة وفرة من البيانات الترجمية التي توضح وتعزز تلك القضايا من خلال الأمثلة والشرح والتعليق. وينطلق هذا الأسلوب من الإيمان الراسخ بأن التطبيق السلس للمقولات النظرية هو أمر لا بد من تحقيقه في حقل تطبيقي في جوهره كحقل الترجمة، إذ ينبغي للتنظير أن يكون معززاً وليس بديلاً عن التطبيق في عملية الترجمة.
