إن ألفاظ النبوة يعمرها قلب متصل بجلال خالقه، ويصقلها لسان نزل عليه القرآن بحقائقه، محكمة الفصول، محذوفة الفضول، وكأنما هي في اختصارها وإفادتها نبض قلب يتكلم، وإنما هي في سموها مظهر من خواطره صلى الله عليه وسلم. ومختصر جواهر الكلام في الحكم والأحكام معجم مفهرس للحكم النبوية ألّفه القاضي الآمدي وجعله في ثلاثة أجزاء، الأول فيه خاص بحرف الألف، والثاني يشمل بقية الحروف إلى قوله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "من عال يتيماً وأشفق عليه غفر الله له ذنوبه"، والثالث يكمل الثاني ويبدأ بقوله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "من غشى أمتي لعنه الله وعذبه"، ونهج المؤلف كما عبر فيه عن نفسه عن ذلك فقال: "وجعلته محذوف الأسانيد، مرتباً مسجعاً منضداً مقرناً، ليسهل حفظه على قاريه، وجعلت ترتيبه على حروف المعجم، لكي يدخل كل خبرة منها في حرفه...". جمع الآمدي في هذا الكتاب ما يزيد على ألفين وخمسمائة حديث، اختارها واستخرجها من مراجع شتى.
