علم الحديث الشريف من أجل العلوم وأشرفها بعد القرآن الكريم وعلومه، لأنه أساس التشريع الإسلامي، وبه تعرف الأحكام الشرعية، لأنه الشارح للقرآن الكريم والمبين لمجمله. ومن هنا كانت عناية علماء الحديث به أشد عناية، تمحيصاً وضبطاً وتدقيقاً، فكانت بداية جمع الصحيح وتجريده من الضعيف والباطل والموضوع على يدي الإمام البخاري إمام الحديث وجامع الصحيح، ثم تبعه بعد ذلك الإمام مسلم وغيره من أئمة الحديث، فقد سخر الله لهذا الأمة من يذود عنها كذب الكذابين ووضع الواضعين المفترين على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، وقد ثبت في الصحيح قول النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: "من كذب علي متعمداً فليتبوأ مقعده من النار".
من هنا ونظراً لما للموضوع من أهمية، كان هذا الكتاب: "القول الحنيف في شرح المنار المنيف" بمثابة المبين لحقيقة الصحيح من الضعيف، حتى لا تكون الأحكام الشرعية مبنية على أحاديث ضعيفة، لا أساس لها ولا ضابط، وما أكثر هذه الأحاديث الضعيفة، التي اغتر بوجودها الكثير، فراحوا يلوحون بها يميناً وشمالاً، مستغنين في ذلك عن الكثير من الأحاديث الصحيحة. ولقد عاش الإمام ابن القيم الجوزية في عصره الكثير من هذه الافتراءات والأباطيل، والتي نسبت كذباً وزوراً للرسول الأكرم صلى الله عليه وسلم، فكان الإمام ابن القيم لها بالمرصاد، فرد على أولئك الذين سولت لهم أنفسهم أن يقتحموا هذا الأمر، وما علموا أنهم اقتحموا سعيراً مستعرة، فكان كتابه "المنار المنيف في الصحيح والضعيف" مناراً حقيقياً، يهتدي به كل غافل عن تمييز حقيقة الحديث الصحيح من الضعيف، ولذا الباحث "عبد الحفيظ قطاش" أن يزيد هذا الكتاب توضيحاً ودراسة لكل جوانبه تخريجاً وضبطاً، حتى تعم الفائدة، ويستفيد منه القارئ، ولكي لا نهمل جانب مهماً في حياتنا الإسلامية، إنه جانب التثبت من الأحاديث، وعدم التسرع في العمل بها، حتى نعرف صحيحها من ضعيفها، وحتى لا نصدر الأحكام جزافاً بقولنا إنها ضعيفة أو صحيحة، دون الرجوع لتخريجها وبيان رواتها وسندها.
