إن التجربة الواقعية التي يعيشها الشاعر بظروفها العامة والخاصة، لا شك أنها تتدخل كثيراً بتوجهاته الشعرية وتوجهات جيله بأكمله، إنه الشاعر "إياد شاهين"، الغائب / الحاضر من خلال (كورتاج) العنوان الذي اختاره التعبير عن إجهاض الأحلام، أو النكوص، تحت وطأة واقع جاء أراد التعبير عنه بلسان كل المقهورين، في القصيدة المعنونة "الغريب" يقول: "أين وجدتموُه؟... في ثيابه... وجدناه حيّاً وميتاً... مُكباً على صفحةٍ من غيابهْ... وهلْ شاهدتكمْ مساميرُ بابه... دخلنا من المرأةِ المغلقهْ... خرجنا على دمعةٍ في شرابة... تركناهْ حيّاً وميتاً... مكباً على صفحةٍ من غيابهْ".
هذا التفاعل بين القصيدة والواقع عامة والسياسي منه بوجه الخصوص ليس غريباً على أدبنا العربي فهو ظاهرة موجودة قديماً في الشعر، واتضح أكثر في شعر التحزب السياسي في عصور مضت، إلا أنهُ بات مؤشراً مهماً من مؤشرات الواقع الحديث، فالشاعر الجديد كائن سياسي ولكنه شاعر أولاً، وقضية عصره هي التي تملي عليه أفكاره، وقد بدا شاعرنا ذو مواقف خاصة ذات سمة ثورية يجد فيها القارئ صور مشابهة لما يجري ليس في بلد الشاعر فحسب، بل في العالم أيضاً.
