خالد البسام كاتب ومؤرخ بحريني، ولد في عنيزة في تاريخ 18 نوفمبر عام 1956م. صدرت له الكثير من المؤلفات في تاريخ البحرين والخليج العربي، إضافة إلى إصدارات عديدة تنوعت بين الرواية وسير الأعلام والسياسة. وتوفي عام 2015م.

رجع خالد البسام في هذا الكتاب إلى مئات الوثائق والأوراق القديمة والملفات المحفوظة في "مكتب الهند" بالمكتبة البريطانية بلندن، وكان الصمت يلف تاريخاً بكامله في تلك الأوراق الثمينة، التي تتيح للمرء أن يطل على أحداث مضت وحكايات طواها الزمان، لكنه لم يمحها قط من ذاكرة تلك الوثائق.
وأمام صمت الملفات والوثائق، لم يكن للمؤلف بدّ من أن يصمت هو الآخر إصغاء لكلمة التاريخ، ورغبة في تشربها وتأملها واستكناه معانيها من أجل كتابتها فيما بعد، ونفض الغبار عنها، وتحريرها من الصمت الذي طالما ران عليها.
هذا الكتاب الصغير، يفتح نافذة للقارئ على تاريخ شعب من الشعوب العربية في فترة صعبة من تاريخنا المعاصر، حيث كان الاحتلال البريطاني الغابر يعمل بكل قدرته على إعاقتنا وتعطيل نموّنا ونهب ثرواتنا، وحيث كان الإنسان العربي، في المقابل، لا يني يناضل ويجتهد ويعمل بصمت على استرداد ذاته وتحريرها وتفعيلها والارتفاع بها إلى مستوى انتمائه العربي وإنسانيته.
وإننا لنأمل في أن يشكل هذا الكتاب مرجعاً مفيداً ومهماً للباحثين والدارسين والقراء العرب في كل مكان.
