من يعرف فيكتور كالوس عن كثب، يرى أنه من بقايا رجال عملوا في الصحافة بحب بل بعشق، فكانت تلك المهنة منظومة حياة متكاملة له، يتداخل فيها تقنية العمل مع استغراق في تعلق صوفي بها، فكأنها الأولى والأخيرة له، وإذا كانت حلب موطنه فإن نبض العاصمة دمشق ينتظم عقله وأحاسيسه، كان عقله السياسي (رقيباً) وليس (فاعلاً) أو (مشاركاً)، ومن هنا اكتسب فيكتور كالوس حياديته المهنية.
