إن كتاب المقدمة لابن خلدون وبعض كتاباته الأخرى ستبقى قابلة لاسترسال القراءات وتراسلها، وذلك لأنها كأمهات النصوص، حافلة بالدقائق والمعاني، غنية بقدرتها على تفجير قرائح القارئين واجتهادات المؤولين. ورغم هذا فهناك بين عموم الدارسين أناساً يتوهمون أن الخلدونية قد قيل فيها كل شيء وأن أمرها أضحى مشاعاً مكشوفاً، بدليل المئات من الدراسات المتراكمة، كما أن هناك بين خاصتهم مهتمين بالتراث الخلدوني صاغوا حوله أطروحات، والواحد منهم تحدوه الرغبة في أن يقول جهراً أو رمزاً: إني آخر القارئين. وكلا الفئتين تخطئ الصواب وتغلب الوهم.
الأول لأنها تخلط بين الكيف والكم وتضع هذا معياراً لذاك، معتبرة ضمناً الخلدونية كملف إداري أو قضائي لا بد من الحسم فيه باجتماع كل عناصره وحيثياته، والثانية لأنها تقطع الطريق على متابعة القراءة والتأويل وتمارس هذا الحق حيث تستخف به لدى الآخرين، فالقراءات الخلدونية، التي وعلى كثرتها وتنوعها لا تتوفر فيها شروط الجودة البحثية والعطاء الفكري إلا نادراً.
والباحث في هذا الكتاب يتعرض لقراءات خضع لها ابن خلدون، وأصبحت تشكل مادة متكثرة تتصادم فيها التأويلات والذهنيات، متوخياً، على الخصوص، أكثرها إثارة للجدل، متجنباً في معالجتها اللغة المتشنجة الجامدة، ومتجاوزاً في أسلوبه أسلوب المسوح الباردة الوصفية.
الخلدونية ليست قضية تتطلب تصفية نهائية أو تستدعي الكلمة الفصل، فالقراءات، كيفما تعددت وتنوعت، لا تتوفر فيها شروط الجودة البحثية والعطاء الفكري إلا نادراً. فكم من قراءة لا يمكن عدها كذلك لكونها عائبة المنطلق أو قاصرة النظر والمنهج! وكم من قراءة تتخذ الخلدونية ذرية تمارس بها وحولها شتى أنواع التهافتات والإسقاطات المفهومية، ذات الجعجعة ولا طحن! هذا فضلاً عن قراءات أخرى تتم في حالات من الغفلة والشرود. وأخرى مدرسية أو مكتظة بالنسوخ والاجترارات... وفي آخر الأمر لا يتبقى من كثرة الدراسات الخلدونية-التي يلزم على كل حال النظر فيها-إلا قسط يسير يدل على براعة أصحابه في إعمال المقاربة المونوغرافية النافعة، أو على مهارتهم في التنظير الجيد والمعقول. وهذا القس كيفما اتسع وانتعش، فإنه لن يزيد الموضوعات إلا تأصيلاً وانفتاحاً، لا سيما وأن الخلدونية نفسها ليست سوى عنصر من المركب الذي تحيل إليه، ألا وهو المركب الاجتماعي-الثقافي لفترة تاريخية زاخرة بالدلالات، تعدّ بحق قطب الرحى في نشأة مغرب-وإلى حد ما مشرق-ما قبل الاستعمار.
