كان الإنسان وما برح منذ القدم يصبو إلى التطور في جميع المجالات، سواء أكان في الطب أو الصناعة أو التجارة أو الزراعة... إلخ.
وذلك إختصاراً للوقت والجهد الجسدي للإنتاج الأفضل والنوعية الممتازة التي تتماشى مع كل الآراء والأذواق والعصور؛ فقد انكبّ العلماء والدارسون في كل إتجاه، للتمحيص والبحث عما يؤمن الرفاهية والراحة لبني البشر، أينما كانوا في عالمنا وبدون إستثناء.
لذلك، بدأ الإنسان بالإختراع من نفسه وإليها، فمثلاً للإنتقال كان الإنسان يعتمد على رجليه، وشيئاً فشيئاً بدأ بتجهيز طرق للمواصلات، ثم جاء عصر الآلة، فمن الدراجة والسفن الشراعية إلى السيارة والقطار والبواخر الضخمة إلى الطائرات والمركبات الفضائية.
وكما احتجنا الفم واللسان للتعبير وإيصال الصوت عن بُعد، وللأذن للسمع وإستقبال الصوت، ثم جاء الإتصال عبر الهاتف والراديو واللاسلكي، ولكي لا ننسى ما نقول ونغير هذه الأقوال جاء التلغراف أو الكتابة السلكية واللاسلكية عبر أجهزة التلكس والآلات الكاتبة.
وكما ترى العين، جاءت الكاميرا لتعمل عملها فتخفف عن كاهلها وترسم الحقائق عبر الفيديو والصور الفوتوغرافية، ولأن سعة الدماغ البشري وذاكرته محدودة ومعرضة للنسيان، بدأنا بالتفتيش عن الوسيلة التي تبقي على المعلومات دون أن تُحذف أو تُحدد، فلجأنا إلى الطباعة للتخزين في الكتب.
أخيراً، كان لا بد من وجود قسم نظري لكل شيء وهو الخيال، الشاشة أو التلفزة، وقسم حسي وهو المادة أي الطباعة على الورق، ولما كانت الحقيقة قسمين هما: السمع والنظر، وحيث أن كل واحد منهما لا يكفي بمفرده دون الآخر، لذا جاء هذا الكتاب الذي يكرس الحقيقة المحسوسة ويدمغها دمغاً، ويضعها موضع التنفيذ، وهنا تمكن أهمية الطباعة والآلات الطابعة والآت التصوير، وكذلك آلات الإتصال وأجهزته، وهذا سوف تطرق إليه في الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا.
