كانت النظرة الكلاسيكية الماضية لعلم الإدارة أنه ليس بذلك العلم المكتمل لا سيما وأن الإدارة تعمل في ظل بيئة متغيرة لا تقبل التحكم والقياس الكمي، فالظروف التي تحيط بمنظمات اليوم تتطلب إيجاد معايير تحكم وضع الإستراتيجيات التي تكفل الإستمرار، الأمر الذي أدى خلال السنوات القليلة الماضية إلى تطورات غير مسبوقة في المجالات الإدارية والتكنولوجية كافة، وكان أبرز هذه التطورات التي ميزت وقتنا الحالي هي الدينامكية التي عرفها المجال الإداري.
لقد أصبح مما لا شك فيه أن عالم الألفية الثالثة زئبقي في طبيعته، وسرعة التغيرات هذه تتطلب منظمات ومديرين من نوعية خاصة، بحيث يكونوا قادرين على توفير نظرة مستقبلية ومساعدة المنظمة على تتبع التغيرات في البيئة الداخلية والخارجية والعمل على مواجهتها، وليس من الغرابة بمكان أن تكون إدارة المعرفة الملاذ الآمن لمواجهة هذه المتغيرات بفعّالية، حيث ترجع بدايات المعرفة إلى بداية خلق الإنسان، فالله عزّ وجلّ خلق الإنسان على الفطرة ثم علمهُ وهداهُ، ومنذ مئات السنين وخاصةً في القرون الوسطى كان إنتقال المعرفة من المهني إلى التلميذ يتم عن طريق ما يسمى بوصفة العائلة وبذلك يتم اقتسامها وتنتقل من جبل إلى آخر، وعملية الإنتقال هذه تم ببطءٍ شديد، أما الآن نجد أن الطرق الحديثة للإدارة فتحت الباب واسعاً لنقل المعرفة بإستغلال التقنية مثل الإنترنيت ووسائل الإتصال المختلفة، فالمعرفة تشكل المورد الأساسي لبناء القدرة التنافسية للعديد من المنظمات.
ومن هنا، جاء هذا الكتاب بعنوان إدارة المعرفة في منظمات الأعمال ليسلط الضوء على مورد المعرفة كمورد إستراتجي لا يخضع لا من قريب ولا من بعيد للقوانين والنظريات الإقتصادية التقليدية، فالمعرفة وإدارتها هي أداة لخلق القيمة المضافة.
