عرف شاعرنا صاحب هذا الديوان، في التاريخ بلقبه "المؤيد في الدين"، وعرف أحيانا بالمؤيد فقط، فجميع كتب الدعوة التي أشارت إليه تعرفه بذلك. أما اسمه فهو "هبة الله" ويكنى بأبي نصر، أما اسم أبيه فقد اختلف فيه فقيل موسى وقيل الحسين، إلا أن جميع النصوص التي وصلت تدل على أن الشاعر هو هبة الله بن موسى بن عمران وتتفق جميع النصوص على تسميته "بالسلماني" نسبة إلى سلمان الفارسي. كان المؤيد عالماً من أكبر علماء عصره، وكان واسع الثقافة والعلم بما كان يدور حوله من مختلف ألوان الحياة العقلية والأدبية، وقد شارك في هذه الحياة العقلية فتلك الحياة الأدبية وكان نتيجة ذلك كتباً وضعها المؤيد وأصبحت من أمهات كتب الدعوة الفاطمية، بل لا تزال إلى اليوم في نظر طائفة البهرة من كتبهم المقدسة التي لا يصل إليها إلا من درج في علوم مذهبهم وبلغ أعلى درجاتها. وقد كان المؤيد معلماً له تلاميذ استمعوا إليه وأخذوا منه حيث كان له عظيم الأثر في الدعوة الفاطمية ولا تزال كتبه إلى الآن من أمهات الكتب التي لا يقربها إلا شيوخ الدعوة الطبية في الهند واليمن أما أثره من الناحية الأدبية، فهو أثر ضعيف لا يكاد يذكر، فأشعاره ورسائله ومناجاته التي استشهد بها علماء اليمن لم يذكروها إلا لإثبات عقيدتهم الدينية، ولم يحتفظ علماء الدعوة بديوان المؤيد إلا لأنه أثر من الآثار الدينية ومن كتبهم المقدسة التي يقرءونها بعد الصلاة أو قبلها على النحو الذي يتبعه الصوفية في قراءة الأوراد. ولو لم تأخذ أشعار المؤيد هذه الصفة الدينية لضاع شعر المؤيد كما ضاع شعر غيره من الشعراء. ومن خلال ديوانه، يحاول المحقق الكشف عن شخصية المؤيد داعي الدعاة، وبالتالي إظهار حقيقة الفاطميين التي ظلت موضع شك مدة طويلة. وقد عمد المحقق إلى إغناء هذا الديوان بدراسة شملت حياة المؤيد في الدين وعقائد الفاطميين في شعر المؤيد ونظرة في شعر المؤيد.
