تعتبر المحاسبة عموماً كمعرفة مفيدة؛ إلا أنّها اشتهرت لدى الجمهور بأنها تحكمية ومضجرة، وغامضة ومحذلقة. ولا يعترف لها إلا بمكان ضعيف بين المعارف التي تساهم في ثقافة الإنسان عامة. وهذا الكتاب يقدم معلومات عامة حول المحاسبة ليستفيد منها صاحب المشروع والتاجر والإداري، ليكون بإمكانهم الحصول بواسطة هذه المعرفة على قياس للنوعية المالية لمشاريعهم. لأن المحاسبة هي شاهدهم وهي حاكمهم، وهي أيضاً المستشار والضمان للمساهم والموفر والمواطن. إن صاحب الحساب الذي لا يعرف حتى كيف يدقق في الكشوفات الفصلية، ليس له أن يحتج ضد التأخر أو التعتيم في موازنة الدولة وحساباتها. إذن فالمعرفة البسيطة بالمحاسبة هي شيء ضروري لمن يريد المساهمة بحد أدنى من الفهم في الحياة المالية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية في المجتمع المعاصر. وقد رتبت المواضيع التي تحدث عنها المؤلف ضمن قسمي الكتاب: القسم الأول تناول موضوع الإكمال المستمر للأساليب المحاسبية تحت تأثير احتياجات الشروع بحث ذلك ضمن فصول ثلاثة دارت حول المسائل التالية: المحاسبة البسيطة، المحاسبة البدائية المزدوجة، التحسينات المدخلة على الطريقة المزدوجة منذ 1400 إلى سنة 1030. القسم الثاني تناول موضوع الثورة في التقنية المحاسبية تحت تأثير الاحتياجات الجديدة للجماهير والدولة، بحث ذلك ضمن فصلين دارت حول النقاط التالية: الخطة المحاسبية لسنة 1957، التقارير السنوية. واختتم الكتاب بخاتمة جاءت بمثابة تلخيص لما أورده المؤلف من آراء وأفكار ومعلومات حول المحاسبة وأهميتها ودورها قديماً وحديثاً.
