تفسير الجلالين هو من أهم كتب التفسير بالرأي. وقد جمع بين دفتيه تفسيراً لإمامين جليلين الأول للإمام جلال الدين عبد الرحمن السيوطي الذي فسّر من أول البقرة إلى آخر سورة الإسراء والثاني للإمام جلال الدين محمد المحلي الذي فسّر من سورة الكهف إلى آخر القرآن.
والكتاب قيّم سهل المأخذ إلى حدٍّ ما، مختصر العبارة كثيراً، يكاد يكون أعظم التفاسير انتشاراً ونفعاً، وإن كان أصغرها أو من أصغرها شرحاً وحجماً، تداولته طبقات مختلفة من أهم العلم وغيرهم، حتى أن كثيراً من العلماء كانوا يختارونه لأعلى دراسة عرفت في التفسير، كمادة أساسية يدورون حولها ويستلهمون وحيها، حتى أن دروس التفسير الشهيرة للعلامة الشيخ محمد عبده كانت مادته تفسير الجلالين. والحقّ أن هذا الكتاب في تفسير كتاب الله عظيم، ويشير بالرمز إلى كثير من المسائل التي يشرحها غيره بأسلوب مطول وكلام غزير، ومن كان أكثر علماً كان أكثر إدراكاً لما يرمز إليه، على أن الرجل العادي يستطيع أن يفهم الآية مما يقرؤه في هذا التفسير لأنه يوقفك على المعنى من أقرب الطرق وبأوضح العبارة، دون أن تضيع في مهامه من الأقوال والإيرادات.
وقد جاء القرآن الكريم في هذه النسخة مطبوعاً على حاشية المصحف الشريف المشهور بمصحف الملك بالرسم العثماني المعتمد الموافق في رسمه لمصحف سيدنا عثمان رضي الله عنه وبآخره أسباب النزول للسيوطي.
