تعد هذه القصة "الظمأ.. للحب" من أروع قصص "مكيا والتري" القصصية دون نزاع وفيها يروي قصة زوج نبي، خامل، لا ينطفئ ظمؤه إلى الخمر، وإلى جسد زوجته... وقصة زوجة خدعت في زوجها، وفي حبها، وفي مثلها العليا وغثيت نفسها لإغراق زوجها في إشباع شهواته، فأسلمته جسدها، وضمت عليه بروحها!.. ثم تحول تقززها إلى كراهية، فأصبح جسدها يتحول إلى هيكل من حجر بارد كلما أقبل عليه زوجها!.. إلى أن ساق إليها القدر رجلاً أحبته فإذا الحياة تدب في الجسد البارد.. وإذا الظمأ يبرح بالجسد والروح والقلب جميعها.. و.. لندع الباقي إلى أن تقرأ القصة، حتى لا نفسد عليك متعة تتبع سياقها، واكتشاف أحداثها ووقائعها وغاياتها!
ولقد بلغ "والتاري" في هذه القصة أبدع مراتب التصوير والتحليل معاً.. فإن عباراته تكاد تبدو كخطوط في لوحة معبرة، واضحة. فهو يصف الزوج الغبي كما بدا لعيني التونين بطل الرواية، فيقول: "لم يعد التونين يشعر بغير التقزز الذي غشيه لملمس تلك اليد الرخوة الضعيفة!.. أحس بما كان فيها من لين يثير الاشمئزاز من هذا الرجل الذي كان أقصر منه، والذي أجدب رأسه من الشعر قبل الأوان!..
وخيل إليه أن روح الرجل كانت –هي الأخرى- كنبات أسفنجي منتفخ على فراغ.. أو بالأحرى، كنبات فطري!..
وأحس بغثيان لمرأى الخدين المترهلين، والفم المتراخي الغليظ الشفتين، والذقن الطري الناعم كأنه ذقن امرأة، والنظرة الزائفة، الزائعة، كسحلية تتسلل على صدغه!"
من ذا الذي يقرأ هذه السطور،ولا تقفز أمام عينيه صورة الرجل الرخو الجسم، المترهل، الخامل، الملتاث العقل؟.. ثم تطل هذه الصورة تقفز أمام بصره –من تلقاء ذاتها- كلما ورد ذكر ذلك الزوج في سياق القصة!
