ويبحث في التقاليد والأعراف التي سادت ممارسات الأطباء والصيادلة والحرفيين والتجار وأهل التصوف. وفي نشوء الأعمال المصرفية.
كما يتضمن الكتاب بحثاً مستفيضاً عن معظم عائلات بيروت منذ الفتح العثماني، وما قام به البعض من أعمال الخير والبر والمعروف.
ويحتوي من الملح والأحماض ما يجعله جامعاً بين الفائدة والعبرة والفكاهة.
