تتمحور بحوث هذا الكتاب حول فلسفة الإمامة وأدلتها في الإجتماعَين الديني والسياسي، والتي تهدف إلى البحث في أصل الإمامة وضرورتها، بمعزل عن جملة المصاديق والتطبيقات والتفاصيل ذات الصلة، حيث تناول المؤلف ذلك الموضوع من خلال منطق الإجتماع الديني والمعرفي، بالإضافة إلى منطق الإجتماع السياسي وإشكالياته ومحاذيره، كما ومن خلال أهم النصوص الحجاجية في التراث الحجاجي الإسلامي وتحليلها، وصولاً إلى بحث واقعة الغدير ونص الولاية، محاولاً قراءة ذلك النص متموضعاً في ظروفه التأريخية والإجتماعية والسياسية، وإشكاليات الزمان والمكان، وذلك بهدف التوصل إلى فهم علمي موضوعي منهجي.
لذلك النص ودلالاته، بعيداً عن أي إسقاط أيدولوجي مسبق، أو أي تأويل يقفز فوق جميع القرائن الإجتماعية والسياسية ذات الصلة ويسعى إلى تجاوزها.
