الدراسة في الفلسفة العامة - دراسة تتسم بالعمومية والشمول وتتعرض للبحث في قضايا الفلسفة العامة ومشكلاتها الرئيسية مثل الحرية، والضرورة والعلية، والجوهر وغيرها من موضوعات تمثل أساس البحث في الفلسفة منذ بدايتها الأولى وحتى مطالع العصر الحديث والمعاصر.
وفي ضوء البحث في مجال الفلسفة العامة، يعرض في كتاب "دراسات في الفلسفة العامة" خمسة موضوعات تمس جوهر الفكر الفلسفي وتبحث في بعض قضاياه المتعددة ذات الأهمية لكل باحث في مجال الفلسفة فيعرض لمشكلة تطور فكرة الوعي وبزوغ فلسفة الوجود التي تعد المدخل إلى الفلسفة المعاصرة خاصة ما يتعلق بها بالوجود.
وبعد عرض هذا البحث، يتطرق المؤلف إلى البحث في مشكلة المضمون الفلسفي لفكرة الجوهر منذ فجر التاريخ اليوناني، وحتى مطالع العصر الحديث والمعاصر متعرضين في ذلك لشرح الآراء والنظريات التي أدلت بدلوها في تفسير جوهر الوجود وأصل العالم من المنظور الفلسفي، ثم عرض بعد ذلك في دراسة ثالثة للصلة بين الوجود والمعرفة، وهي من المشاكل الهامة التي تطرح ذاتها على بساط البحث الفلسفي منذ أقدم عصور ومن خلالها تعرض لدراسة الفيلسوف باركلي رائد الفلسفة اللامادية.
وتبرز مشكلة الألوهية والصلة بين الفلسفة والدين من خلال عرض الدراسة الرابعة من هذا الكتاب وهي خاصة بتصور فكرة الألوهية ودورها الميتافيزيقي في صياغة المذهب العقلي وتتمثل الدراسة في بحث الصلة بين الفكر والعقيدة، مع عرض متنوع للصلة بين الفلسفة والدين عند مجموعة من فلاسفة المدرسة الديكارتية، ودور الألوهية في بناء مذاهبهم العقلية.
أما الدراسة الخامسة والأخيرة فتتعلق بضرب جديد من ضروب الفكر الفلسفي المعاصر، ألا وهو فن الحياة أو الحكمة فنعرض لهذا اللون من الفكر الفلسفي المتميز بالحكمة مع التمثيل بآلان فلسفة "الحكمة أو فن الحياة" من وحي تأملاته الواسعة في الفلسفات القديمة…
