اهتم العرب بالأنساب وبرز منهم النسابون والعلماء الذي صنفوا في هذا الباب الكثير من المؤلفات. والنسب اصطلاحاً هو علم يتعرف منه أنساب الناس وقواعده الكلية والجزئية والغرض منه الاحتراز عن الخطأ في نسب شخص. وفي ذلك فوائد جمة أهمها أن في معرفة النسب مندفعاً إلى مكارم الأخلاق، وفيها مزدجراً عن الملكات الرذيلة. والآن خير الناس هو سيدنا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، وهو الصادق المصدق الذي قال "بعثت من خيرة قريش، نقلت من الأصلاب الزاكية، إلى الأرحام الطاهرة، وما افترقت فرقتان إلا كنت في خيرهما". فإن عترته آل بيته أحق بأن تصنف فيهم الكتب وتحرر الرسائل، تذكيراً للناس بفضلهم وسبقهم.
هذا الكتاب يشتمل على ذكر أولاد الأئمة المعصومين على التجميل والتفصيل حسب المتيسر. حيث يذكر المؤلف ذلك من خلاله منهجية تقسيم الكتاب إلى أبواب عدة، مقسمة على عدد الأئمة المعصومين عليهم السلام. فيتناول في كل باب وبصورة مختصرة سرداً تاريخياً عن حياة كل أمام معصوم ثم يذكر بالتفصيل المتيسر تراجم أولاد كل إمام معصوم من الذكور والإناث على حدة.
