سعى هذا الكتاب لاستكشاف طبيعة العلاقة السلبية بين الأنبياء والمترفين في التاريخ على ضوء الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية والنصوص التاريخية التي يمكن من خلالها الوقوف على حقيقة وجوهر هذا الصراع بين النبوة والمترفين بكل مظاهره وأبعاده. وما تضمنه هذا الكتاب بفصوله الخمسة هدف إلى بيان معنى أن يكون الإنسان مترفاً في مشاريعه وسياساته وأهدافه، كما بين حقيقة ما أرشدت إليه النبوة فيما جاءت به من بينات وقوانين لهداية الإنسان وإخراجه من الظلمات إلى النور، بعد أن أفسد الترف عليه حياته وجعله أسير الشهوة والطاغوت. إن الصراع بين الأنبياء والمترفين لم يكن صراعاً بين أشخاص أو على مصالح شخصية، وإنما كان بين مشروعين، مشروع أرضي مادي يقوم على منهج ومنطق الإخلاد إلى الأرض والإفساد فيها والعبث بنعم الله واتخاذ المال والسلطة غاية نهائية لتعزيز ملك الفرغونية ودورها في استعباد الناس، وبين مشروع إلهي إيماني يقوم على الدعوة إلى الله وتوحيده، وهداية الناس إلى الإيمان وكل القوانين والأحكام التي تضمن لهم السلامة في الدنيا والآخرة، إضافة إلى تمكينهم من تحقيق الهدف الذي استخلفوا من أجله على هذه الأرض.
إنه منهج النبوة القائم على الإيمالن، والداعي إلى حياة الروح، والمانع من أن يكون الأموال والأولاد منتهى الآمال والأحلام والغايات، كما أنه منهج يسعى إلى تأمين حياة إنسانية سليمة ومتوازنة يستطيع الإنسان من خلالها تجاوز كل المظاهر المادية إلى ما هو خير وأبقى.
فالنبوة زمان حي وتاريخ اكتملت فيه معاني الحياة، وانتصرت فيه الروح على المادة والدم على السيف، والإنسان بمقدار ما يكون معبرأً عن هذه الروح ومترجماً لها، بمقدار ما يكون تاريخياً، لأن التاريخ هو تاريخ النبوة الحية في فعلها الممتد في الزمان والمكان ومع كل إنسان.
وبما أن الحضارة ليست شيئاً خارج التاريخ والزمان، فليس أمام الإنسان إلا السعي في سبيل حضارة روحية يعبر بها عن تاريخه وزمانه وتتحقق معها جميع أبعاده بحيث يكون فعله الإيماني مستحضراً لكل القيم والأهداف والمبادئ التي يزكو معها فعله وتحيا بها فطرته وتزدهر بها حياته.
