للأسرة في الواقع، دور مؤثر وهام في بلورة الشخصية الجماعية والفردية، وفي مساعدتها على إحداث التغيير والتحويل الضروريين في الصفات الذاتية والموضوعية أثناء اجتيازها (أي الشخصية) مختلف مراحل تطورّها وبشكل خاص لدى تعرضها لمواقف أو وضعيات تتطلب منها القيام بعملية التوافق مع مستجدات هذه المواقف ومن ثم أحداث التغيير المناسب كي تتجاوزها. لذا أصبحت دراسات كهذه التي نقلب صفحاتها حاجة ملحة ومعاصرة لعدة أسباب أهمها، الكشف عن طبيعة العلاقات المتوجب إقامتها، ضمن الإطار الأسرى، بين الأهل والطفل، وبالتالي ضرورة معرفة مقدار تداخل هؤلاء (الأهل) في بناء شخصية طفلهم ودون تطرّف حتى يكون تدخلهم هذا عاملاً إيجابياً يساهم في نمو هذا الأخير وتطوره السليمين فيسهمون بذلك، في بلورة قدراته واستعداداته الفطرية.
وفي بحثها هذا تتوقف "كريستين نصار" عند دراستها للأسرة العربية ومواقفها في اضطراب الطفل عند نموذج العائلة اللبنانية كحالة خاصة نظراً لكونها شكلت الميدان التجريبي لبحثها هذا النظري والميداني وفيه تحدثت في الفصل الأول في الكتاب عن التطور الذي شهدته العائلات عبر الأجيال والقرون، وصولاً إلى عهدنا الحالي، وهذا ما يشكل الجو العلمي الملائم للحديث عن العائلة العربية وتطور بناها عبر العصور في الفصل الثاني وهيأ لها الإطار المتكامل للحديث عن العائلة اللبنانية، وخصائصها في الفصل الثالث الذي يختتم جولتها النظرية حول مفهوم الأسرة وتطورها، ويفتح الباب مشرعاً أمام الجولة التطبيقية العملية التي تتناول دراسة الاضطرابات التي يعاين منها الطفل العربي بشكل عام، واللبناني بشكل خاص، نتيجة المواقف الخاطئة التي تتبعها الأسرة معه لدى تنشئته ورعايته.
