يُعتبر أصول الفقه من العلوم الأساسية التي ترتكز عليها عملية الإستنباط الفقهي، وهو منطق الفقه وأدلته، ومن غير الممكن الولوج في استنباط الأحكام الشريعة الإسلامية بقوة واقتدار في جميع الأبواب الفقهية بمعزل عن هذا العلم، ومن هنا جاء اهتمام الأصوليين به، والعمل على تنقيح مسائله بشكل مستمر على سبيل الإجتهاد والبحث عن قواعد تقع في طريق استنباط الأحكام، وهذا بدوره سهّل عملية نمو المباحث الأصولية لتواكب الحاجات الفقهية المتجددة، فتراكم من ذلك كمّ كبير من المادة الأصولية لدى علماء هذا العلم حتى غدت مباحثه في غاية التعقيد، واحتاجت إلى تحصيل علوم كثيرة للوصول إلى عمقها عامودياً وشبكة امتداداتها عرضاً، واللافت في هذا العلم أنه وًضع لخدمة الإستنباط، ولكن عند التبحّر في نظرياته، يكتشف الباحث أن هذه النظيات تصلح للإجابة عما استعصى الإجابة عنه في علوم أخرى، بل والتوسعة في مادتها كمّاً وكيفاً، كما في فلسفة اللغة، وفقه اللغة وغيرهما. لهذا، سعى المولف إلى تحليل المسائل الأصولية من جوانب متعددة، وبيان ابعادها، وعمقها، وامتداداتها، وصلوحها للإجابة عن إشكالات مطروحة في علوم أخرى بل والمقارنة بين نظريات علم الأصول وبين نظريات العلوم الإخرى.
