من يقرأ هذا كتاب الله الحكيم يجد فيه آيات عديدة تؤكد على العدل، تأكيداً جازماً، من مثل قوله تعالى: "وأوفوا الكيل والميزان بالقسط، لا نكلف نفساً إلا وسعها، وإذا قلتم فاعدلوا، ولو كان ذا قربى، وبعهد الله أوفوا، ذلكم وصاكم به لعلكم تذكرون.
وقد اعتنى الشيخان: البخاري ومسلم، وغيرهما من أصحاب السنن بأحاديث العدل، فكان للعدل في بعض المصنفات الحديثية كتباً أو أبواباً، وأفرد أحاديثه الحافظ الكبير، محدث عصره –كما نعته الذهبي- أو نعيم الأصبهاني في جزء، ولكنه يروي الأحاديث الضعيفة، بل الموضوعة أحياناً، ويسكت عليها، لأنه يسوق الحديث بإسناده، وإذا فعل ذلك برء منه –فقام الحافظ السخاوي- بتخريج هذه الأحاديث، مبيناً صحيحها من سقيمها، وقويها من ضعيفها، "وأي خير في حديث مخلوط صحيحه بواهيه، وأنت لا تفليه، ولا تبحث عن ناقليه".
وهذا الكتاب يضع بين يديم جهود هذين العلمين من علماء الحديث.
