يشكل هذا الكتاب ترجمة وقراءة للمجموعة القصصية الموسومة بـ (كولومبا وقصص أخرى) للمؤلف بروسيير ميريميه.
وعن هذا العمل وعن صاحبه يدور الحديث في هذا الكتاب حيث يجد القارئ أولا تصديرا عاما وموجزا يقف فيه بيير جوسران على العناصر الأساسية التي ينبغي معرفتها عن العمل ومؤلفه ومكانته في الأدب العالمي. بعد ذلك ملخص عن الروايات التي كتبها ميريميه بشكل عام. يتبعها ترجمة بالعربية للروايات الآتية 1- ماتيو فالكون، 2- رؤيا شارك العاشر، 3- إحتلال المعقل، 4- تامانغو، 5- لؤلؤة طليطلة، 6- الإناء الإتروري، 7- مباراة النرد، 8- الغلطة المضاعفة، 9- أرواح المطهر، 10- فينوس ديل، 11- كولوميا.
وفي معرض تقديمه لهذا الكتاب يصف بيير جوسران أدب "ميريميه": أنه يميل إلى السحر والرقي يظهر من بداية مؤلفاته حتى نهايتها، وذلك في "رؤيا شارل الحادي عشر"، و "الوقائع" ... وفي السادسة عشرة من عمره، كان يقرأ "السحر الطبيعي" ل ج.ب.بورتا، و:"العالم المسحور" لبالتازار بيكير، و "بحث في التجليات" لدوم كالميت، والذي اقتبس عنه غرائب تجليات "الغزلا". ولم ينكر ميريميه أيضا رأيه الذي جاهر به في عام 1829، حين قال:"أنا لا أحب من التاريخ إلا حكاياته، وإني أعترف بذلك اعترافا يخجلني، فأنا أقايض مؤلفات توسيديد، بطيبة خاطر، مقابل مذكرات أسبازيا الحقيقية، أو مذكرات أحد عبيد بيركليس".
هذا الكتاب: هو الجزء الأول من القصص الكاملة للأديب بروسيير ميريمية و يحتوي الكتاب على القصص التالية: فسيفساء- ماتيو فالكون, رؤيا شارل الحادي عشر, احتلال المعقل, تامانغو, لؤلؤة طليطلة, الإناء الإتروري, مبارة النرد, الغلطة المضاعفة, أرواح المطهر, فينوس ديل, كولومبا. و غالباً يتداخل الخداع مع العجيب و الغريب, و اللذين كان ميرميه يميل إليهما ميلاً شديداً. و كان ميرميه رومانسياً. و كان مولع بالفنون و ارتيابي النزعة و مواضباً كبيراً على العمل.
