يتناول الكتاب ديوان حاتم الطاني والذي يعكس بحق صورة ذاته المعطاءة، وترنيمة حناياه التي لم تجد في دنياها بهاءً سوى بهاء البذل، ولا جمالاً سوى جمال الإيثار. يمثل هذا التناغم عناقاً بين الكائن وكينونته اليومية، أي بين جوهره وسيرته من روائع ما في الشعر الحاتمي من مواقف القيم ومبادئ الأخلاق، ومن هذا المنطلق كان شعره لوناً بعينه وغرضاً كلاماً ومضمون كلام، لفظاً ومعنى وهما يتوافقان فلا تغلب اللفظة مدلولها ولا يفوق المضمون بنياه وتلك هي البلاغة في واحد من أساليبها عند العرب، وهي تظل الأقرب إلى الأصيل أي إلى سلامة البداهة.
