قدر هذا الكتاب هو دعوتكم للفلسفة وتذوُّق ثمار سعادتها، لأنها لا تطلب سوى الإخلاص والمحبة؛ ومع ذلك، لا بد أن نتساءل بإندهاش كبير عما إذا كان زمن الفلسفة قد انتهى في العالم العربي ولم يعد بإمكان الفلاسفة أن يستمروا في الدفاع عن الفلسفة، وبعبارة أخرى؛ لماذا الفلسفة الآن؟ بل وما الحاجة إلى الفلاسفة في هذا العصر البائس؟...
والحال أن الأمم التي وضعت قدرها في يد الفلسفة استطاعت أن تحقق عظمة الروح عندما تركتها تتجول في تاريخ الفلسفة إلى أن تعرفت على نفسها بنفسها، هكذا بلغت مقام الوعي بالذات، لأن السير في التاريخ ينبغي أن يكون بمثابة إمتثال وإصغاء لنداء الحقيقة، لأنه لا بد للروح أن تتوجه لملاقاة ما تتجه الفلسفة صوبه.
فبأي معيار تصبح الفلسفة غير نافعة للأمة العربية؟ هل يمكن الإخلاص لروح تهافت التهافت للغزالي الذي انتقد الفلسفة بالفلسفة؟ أم ينبغي أن نوجه العقل العربي صوب وجود الموجود، بعدم الفشل في حروبه الخطبية والجدلية؟ فأي شيء آخر يبقى للموجود سوى أن يكون من أجل أن يدهشنا؟ وهل الدهشة هي أصل الفلسفة؟...
نعم إن العقل العربي يطلب الحق في الوجود إنطلاقاً من الحرية والفكر، لكي يتمكن من إكتشاف قارة التاريخ والثورات العلمية، والشاهد على ذلك أن إعتقاله في المناظرات الجدلية قد أفرغه من عمقه الأنطولوجي، ولذلك حكم على الأمة بالعيش على حافة الإنهيار، وتحولت إلى مجرد بضاعة تستهلك نفسها، وتنتظر الإنتظار.
