اجتمعت في جزيرة العرب الديانة اليهودية والنصرانية وعبادة الأوثان حتى العام السادس الميلادي، ثم جاء النبي محمد بن عبد الله في مكة يدعو لدين جديد سماه الإسلام، ملة إبراهيم حنيفاً, وأهم قاعدة في هذا الدين الجديد كانت قاعدة التوحيد بالله، للتخلص من الأصنام العديدة التي كان يعبدها عرب الحجاز في ذلك الوقت.
فهل أتى الإسلام بشيء جديد لم تسبقه إليه اليهودية والمسيحية؟ وكون العرب اعتنقوا الإسلام، عل أغنى ذلك حياتهم الاجتماعية والدينية؟ هل كان ممكناً لعرب الجزيرة أن يصلوا لنفس القناعة بوحدانية الله وعبادته دون الأصنام لو لم يظهر الإسلام وسطهم؟
كل هذه أسئلة وغيرها سوف أحاول الرد عليها في متن الكتب، وسوف أبدأ بالتوحيد في الإسلام يختلف عن التوحيد في المسيحية أو اليهودية.
