ليس ما يحتويه هذا الكتاب يوميات أو عرض تفصيلي وتقديري لأوضاع الجنوب وتطورها إنما هو ببساطة سرد لوقائع متفرقة بأسلوب قصصي يراعي التسلسل الزمني قصد مؤلفه أن يلقي الضوء على مسيرة المنطقة الجنوبية خلال فترة عمله هناك. إذ عرف هذا الرجل الجنوب إبان عمله قائمقام لقضاء صور ثم لتمتد تلك العلاقة ليرتقي منصب محافظ الجنوب (1976-1996). عاصر خلالها معظم الأحداث التي عصفت بالمنطقة وكان مشاركاً في صناعة بعضها بدءاً من أحداث 1958 ومروراً بعهد الرئيس فؤاد شهاب وإنجازاته الإدارية والقانونية. كما شهد صعود الزعامات وأقوالها قبل أن تعصف حرب الأيام الستة عام 1967، بلبنان التي كانت نتيجتها احتلال بعض من مزارع شبعا، وقد زود الكتاب بمجموعة من الملاحق والصور التوثيقية.
