يهدف هذا الكتيب إلى التذكير بالقيمة الغذائية وبالفائدة الطبيعية لأهم محاصيل الخضراوات المتداولة والتي يمكن زراعتها في حديقة المنزل، ويمكن مصادفتها في الأسواق والمطاعم. وقد جرى أولاً تقديم فكرة عامة عن أهم المكونات الغذائية للخضار كالبروتينات والدهون مع شرح مبسط لوظائفها والعواقب الناتجة عن نقصها مع التركيز على أهم الفيتامينات والأملاح المعدنية بشكل خاص نظراً لورودها عند الحديث عن كل محصول بشكل مستقل. ثم تلاه عرض موجز لبعض أسس وقواعد الزراعة التي لا بد من مراعاتها في زراعة أي محصول (مع مراعاة خاصيته أحياناً) وكبقية تحضير الشتول لتجنب الخوض فيها عند الحديث عن المحاصيل التي تزرع بطريقه التشتيل. وبعد ذلك جرى الحديث عن أهم محاصيل الخضراوات وقيمة كل منها الغذائية والدوائية وكيفية تناولها إضافة إلى لمحة سريعة عن طريقة زراعتها في المساحات الصغيرة أو الحدائق المنزلية وعن المعاملات الزراعية الأساسية من أجل توفير إنتاج يسد حاجة الأسرة.
