اللغة العربية الفصيحة هي عنوان مجد الأمة ورمز وجودها وقوام حياتها ودليل وحدتها. وهي قبل كل شيء لغة القرآن الكريم، لكل هذا حرص العلماء على سلامتها من الخطأ والدخيل، فحينما رأوا اللحن فاشياً في الكلام لكثرة الأعاجم هبّوا للذبّ عن هذه اللغة الشريفة فألفوا كتباً كثيرة كان لها أثر كبير في صيانة اللغة وتنقيتها من اللحن والعامي والدخيل، فذكرت الخطأ المستعمل والصواب الذي يجب أن يجري به الاستعمال. وكان أبو سليمان (حمد بن محمد بن الخطاب البستي الخطابي) في مقدمة العلماء الذين قاموا بالتأليف في هذا الموضوع.
وقد عني المحقق "حاتم صالح الضامن" بجمع هذه الكتب في هذا الكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته والذي يحتوي على أربعة من أشهر المصنفات التي دونت في هذا الباب، وهي: "إصلاح غلط المحدثين" للخطابي، "غلط الضعفاء من الفقهاء" لابن بري، "سهم الألحاظ في وهم الألفاظ" لابن الحنبلي، "خير الكلام في التقصي عن أغلاط العوام" لابن بالي. والهدف من جمعها هو الحفاظ على سلامة اللغة العربية.
