في المقدمة التي يفتتح بها الشيخ عبد الله الجعفري " كتاب المائدة " المنسوب لأبي عبد الله الحسين بن حمدان الخصيبي ( توفي سنة 334ه ) يخبر قارئه أنه عثر على كتابٍ شيّقٍ في محتواه وجمعه وأسلوبه ، عرف من مقدمته أن مؤلفه الخصيبي عنون ( المائدة ) للكتاب تبركاً وتيمناً بالآية المباركة التي تخصّ قصة النبي عيسى عليه السلام والحواريين الذين كانوا معه ، فعمل على تأليف هذا الكتاب ، وانتخب منه درراً من أخبار وأحاديث مؤلفه المتنوعة والنافعة حول سورة ( المائدة ) ثم أضاف إليه أبواباً أخرى بلغت أربع وعشرون باباً وهي : في طلب العلم ، باب التسليم إلى العلماء ، فيما افترضه الله عن معرفته ومعرفة وليّه ، معرفة النفس وآدابها ، النهي عن البدع ، خلق العقل ، الرضا والتسليم بقضاء الله وقدره ، صفاء المؤمن ، في صفات المؤمنين ، في حقوق الإخوان ، في نصائح للشيعة ، في من عرضت عليه ولاية أمير المؤمنين ، في القضاء والقدر ، في التوحيد ، الدلائل والهداية ، خير المائدة ، كتاب الحجة ، باب سلوني للإمام علي ، باب لوح فاطمة عليها السلام ، باب الكبائر ، باب الإحتجاجات ... وغيرها .
هذا ، وقد شرح المحقق في هامش كل باب معنى الحديث وأشار إلى مصدره وكل من روى في بابه من الرواة المعتبرين عند أهل بيت النبوة عليهم السلام وأئمة الحديث ، وهي أحاديث مضمونها معروف وصحيح وموافق لأصول مذهب أهل البيت عليهم السلام .
