لقد أمست العمارة الحاضنة لتاريخ الفن والمحددة لطابعه، ولان التصوير والرسم والنحت كممارسات تصميمية تبقى مرتبطة بوحي الفنان، أما العمارة فهي تسخير المعمار لبناء مطالب الناس؛ وهنا أصبحت العمارة صورة لثقافة العصر وعلومه وإحتياجاته ومطالبه، وصلة بين وحي المعمار وإدراكه الجمالي.
وانطوت فنون النقش والزخرفة والألوان والإضاءة والأناث وتنظيم الجنان (الفردوسية Landscape) تحت عالم العمارة الفني، وكثير ما اعتمد المؤرخون والنقاد في بحوثهم الإجتماعية أو العكس على تطور العمارة المرتبط مشيميا بتطور هواجس المجتمع وذوقه التصميمي.
إن هذا الكتاب توليفة وإيضاح لعدة مفاهيم تتعلق بالتصميم المعماري في جانبيها الفلسفي والتطبيقي، أراد المؤلف من خلاله تسهيل آلية الإنتقال من الحس إلى التجسيد، ويتعلق الأمر بسرد مقتضب ومقدمات عن مفهوم التصميم كحالة تداخلت مع مفهوم الإبداع الذي يحظى اليوم بأهمية البحث وسبر الغور، بما أنه من أهمية في تطور المنتج الإنساني.
وينقسم الكتاب إلى خمسة عشر بحثاً تختم بمثال تطبيقي لتصميم منزل ثم التفصيل فيه من خلال أخذ مطبخه كنموذج للدراسة التحليلية، ثم التعمق بأخذ إحدى مفرداته وهو الباب.
